
The ISHS Brazilian Portuguese Special Student Awards for Theses on Humor honors outstanding graduate research conducted in Brazil that advances the field of humor studies. Aimed at recent doctoral graduates, the award recognizes originality, theoretical and methodological relevance, and analytical rigor in studies addressing humor as a cultural, linguistic, communicative, artistic, or social phenomenon.
The award will be presented during the International Society for Humor Studies (ISHS) 2026 Conference in Niterói, Brazil, in a special session dedicated to academic work written in Portuguese. Winners will receive a certificate of merit and formal recognition in the official conference program.
In order to be eligible to the award, you must:
• be an ISHS recent doctoral graduate member (graduation after May 1, 2024)
• register for and attend the 2026 ISHS Conference
• submit a complete doctoral thesis
